Great Migration Begins, source found. Is that enough for 'Questionable Gateway Ancestor' tag to be remove?

  • John Lewis -241 1594 Monmouthshire, Wales - August 21, 1657 ~
  • Great Migration Begins, 1620-1635 Vol. 4, I-L page 392-395 of 492 (284-287)

Thank you very much. :-)

Does the GMB document his lineage to a Magna Carta Barron or other Royalty?  I believe that is what these Projects need to verify. Many of the PGM ancestors have claims of such lineage which make them Gateway Ancestors.  Many are Questionable and need verification.

I do not believe that the GMB provides the sources and lineage to be verified.
Anonymous, what does Anderson say about him that supports the gateway status?
And are we talking about the right John Lewis? The profile you point to is for a man who settled in Virginia. Anderson's Great Migration focuses on settlers to New England.

The Great Migration reference given is to a different John Lewis.  This John Lewis does not appear in any of the Great Migration books.

The book which apparently identifies his ancestry is available on ancestry.com:

Moses, Grace McLean. The Welsh Lineage of John Lewis (1592-1657), Emigrant to Gloucester, Virginia. Baltimore, MD, USA: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2002.

It is difficult to flip through and find useful information.  To remove the questionable tag you need to prove each generation until you hit a well documented and well-accepted line.

This thread had me peruse the various JohnLewis profiles. Yowzer. What a mess. Dupes, poorly sourced, disorganized narratives abound. It's disheartening.

no. As Jillaine pointed out, the source you found is for a different John Lewis & also does not provide documentation of the lineage to a Magna Carta surety baron. Looking into your related question about the Puleston line... the profiles in the Virginia Lewis's Puleston line need to be developed. From what I could find, I believe that the John Puleston shown as grandfather of the Viriginia John Lewis in WikiTree is the one shown by Bartrum to have died without legitimate issue & I couldn't find anything in Bartrum about illegitimate issue. See this Bartrum chart:
