Could John Hurveds parents be Hurford

+5 votes
I have been working on the Hurved/Hurvid family tree based in Devon, England for some time and have started adding it to wikitree. The earliest Hurved/Hurvid I can find is John Hurved abt 1762 to 1827 and managed to track just about all other hurveds and hurvids as ancestors of him, but the question remains who are his parents

I think his name could be a misspelling of another name such as Hurford i.e but does anyone have any idea how I could establish a link

Since this is a secondary source, I would get to the original record listed here and look at the spellings of the surname in this source. Go backward and forward a couple hundred years. Surname variations for one name can change in different locations.
It looks like you have One Name Study to do to solve this problem (-:
I was thinking about joining the One Name Guild but havent yet applied.

It seems close enough to be a variant surname. Have you looked in the One Name Guild resources?
