Someone go to Texel and see this dress for me. It looks gorgeous. Must have taken months to embroider.

Yes, I saw this article also. Amazing textile survival story!
I was hoping someone in the area could go and take pictures.

Here's where I'm confused about embroidery. Ladies and perhaps gentlemen who lived in the 1800's had no indoor lighting. So the stitchers spent months IN THE DARK practically making beautiful designs on a garment for their children to go outside and feed the hogs while wearing.

I'm too lazy to sit down with a magnifying light for more than three hours to make a nice garment that will never see dirt. I am awestruck by the antique quilts and embroidery items.

Not to mention that girls weren't allowed to go to school to learn their alphabet. I guess a bible is a good substitute but I wouldn't trade now for then. Ever.

Text at the museum website:

Until May 16 a selection of a worldwide unique discovery will be displayed at museum Kaap Skil: the temporary exhibition Garde Robe. We are extremely proud and honored to be the first to present this discovery on the spot where it all began: the "Reede van Texel".
