cannot change privacy settings

i have tried to change privacy settings on several profiles without success.  Some profiles, I have adopted and want them to be open to others, but the red lock just stays there no matter how many times I go through the change process.  Any ideas?  Is it because I use a Mac?

What are examples? What's WikiTree ID and what are trying to change the setting to?
