Connectors free-space project

+15 votes
There have been a few suggestions recently on G2G about creating a free-space project for Connectors. Somewhere we can tell others what locations/surnames we are working on, what problems we are encountering, what help we can offer to others.

Well, with Abby's help, I've created Connectors Chat.

An amazing 331 members (as of today 22nd April) have been awarded the connectors badge. Please visit this new chat page and add the details of what you are working on, whether it is specific locations or just those special surnames that are so relevant to your research. And if you feel, as I do, that this page could be of great benefit to wikitree connectors, then please offer to help, and ask to join the trusted list or become a Project manager. Maybe a united effort would start to see that 'Total Unconnected' figure begin to decrease.

Some recent changes to the Connectors Chat page, for those of you who haven't been on it recently:

We have deleted the “Privately connected branches” sub-page, since Aleš’s new reports have been changed to exclude privately connected branches.

We have created a new subsidiary page: Let others know what surnames you are working on, in an attempt to help those who are interested in connecting by name, rather than by location.

So now, you have several ways to find unconnected branches to work on:

I looked at Wikipedia's List of countries and dependencies by population, and realised that we didn't even have all the countries in the top ten listed on the Let others know what locations you are working on page. So, I've added sections for Indonesia and Pakistan, and will be adding more as time permits.

Great idea Carol. I didn't realize there were so many badges out there. Just looked and less than 25% of the badged members have participated in the Challenge. Maybe the Chat Page will inspire some to join the Challenge. With the improvements to the Tracker, the next Challenge (Nov/Dec) will take full advantage of the Tracker. No more adding to an answer, just say you're on board for the ride.

Thank you Bob, and using the tracker in next month's Connectors Challenge  sounds very interesting, so will wait to see how it will work. I must admit that typing in all the connections does take some time, so that'll be more time now for connecting!
