Security concern for contributors

+18 votes
Recently, while looking over profiles to ensure I was not adding a duplicate, I encountered a private profile.  Well and good, there were no accurate dates and relationships shown.  But on a whim, I clicked on that person's contributions.  I was able to learn their father's and mother's names, childrens' names, and other private details . . . because those details were shown in the contribution list.

While I think it is great that a contribution list should be available, this list too should be vetted for censoring the details (add "mother", add "father", add "child", of those same items that are censored when showing the private profile.

Moreover, when going to those profiles that were [wrongly] available to me, I was able to learn from them details that should not have been.

The idea of a private profile is good, but is not well-implemented in all cases.  This is a back door that should be closed.

I agree with you Roger. I have family members that don't want me to add them because of this.
