Looking for the parents of James Ranney, born between 1802-1809 in Massachusetts (although a couple places say NY), lived in Ripley County Indiana  married Elizabeth Abel in 1836, had four sons: Frances Marion, George, John and Austin. Died in 1870 and is buried in Ripley County, Indiana. I can find NO Ranney connection further back that him to link us to the main body of Ranneys elsewhere.

I'm not sure about the parents (yet), but this seems to be your James Ranney in the 1850 Census:

Lists another child, Oscar. And an estimated birth year of 1804.

Thanks. I believe the census listing "Oscar" is a misspelling of Austin.
