Why are people who are private still showing?

Family members want a link for the family tree that is here on wikitree, but when i test the link [not logged in] it shows living people even though I have set them to private with public tree.

 http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Moore-Descendants-24788

also what is the bet way for other people to view the tree?  Most likeIy they will want to see a descendent tree from our common ancestor who arrived in Australia.

I find this site very confusing.  I still have not worked out how to see my ancestors or descendants easily. or to see my ancestory including siblings of my ancestors.  So if someone can advise which views to click on this will be helpful to my older non computer literate relatives.

Many Thanks

Bronwyn

Hi Peter,

I have cleared the cache, and browser history of all wikitree.

when i insert the following into my browser   http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Moore-Descendants-24788

it shows the names of people who i have as private.

if you paste the above into your browser do you see my name in from Edward Lomas Moore?

I just opened this on my husbands computer and both myself and my mother are showing with our name.

WE are set to private with a public tree.

What needs to happen to fix this issue please.

Many thanks

Bronwyn
Bronwyn,

Yes, your name appears on the Family Tree (although without birth date) because that is the privacy setting currently selected - i.e. “Private” profile that “shows on family tree”.

The only way to remove your name from the Tree and Descendants list is to use the red padlock. The public view of the descendant list would then show you as “private daughter” - as it does for your siblings.

Terminology may not be clear, but choosing the orange padlock that says “Private with Public Tree” is a request to display your name (only) on the Tree for others to see, but without details such as exact DOB, etc.

Hope this helps?
Thanks Peter,

Your answer brings clarity.

I am slowly learning how to navigate this website.

Thanks

Bronwyn
You’re welcome Bronwyn

I have been on Wikitree for 5 years and I still learn something new each day, (mainly from looking at G2G questions and answers).

I think you made a mistake. Mary Moore's birthdate was at 0816.  I changed it to 1815.

You can only see your ancestors' siblings from their spot on the tree.  While you are on your profile, click on Family Tree and Tools.  A tree (sideways) with your siblings and your ancestors will be there.  Click on one of your parents and their siblings will be there.

You have found the descendant tree.

When I clicked on that link, I saw private granddaughter (1950's), so they are not showing to me.
