Maybe you are on the right track. Peiter Køpke was a (black) smith in Vindeby, Lindelse parish, and had a son named Hans Christian. Looking at sponsors by baptism of other children in the Køpke Family it is clear that there were family connections to Ærøskøbing. So Hans Christian might well have died in that town. However, the disturbing thing is that he is not called Køpke at his burial, but possibly he was simply known as Hans Christian Smidt because of his profession. I would suggest that you look for marriage and children of Hans Christian in the church book of Ærøskøbing, and if any of the sponsors are from Vindeby or Lindelse you got the right man.
