Willem Francois Potgieter

Question

We have been to SA and we went to Pretoria for info on our families.

I had info on my husband’s father and grand father. And we were looking for info on his great grand father.

What we found is the following:

Cornelis Dirk Potgieter Sep 18 1854 - May 2 1938. In the documents it said that this man C D Potgieter died in the home of his son Willem Francois Potgieter on his farm Rietvlei.

My husband’s grand father was Willem Francois Potgieter and he had a farm Rietvlei same district Roossenekal, Middelburg, South Africa. The Mapochsgronden are part of the family land

Now my problem is that on record is that my husbands grand father was born Jun 11 1897 and on a pdf document of Harmen Jansz POTGIETER it says that Willem Francois Potgieter, son of Cornelis Dirk Potgieter Sep 18 1854 - May 2 1938 was born 2 Aug 1886

Can this be the same man? Can the only document I have (the “begrafnis brief”) be so wrong with the birth date?

I would go with the begrafnis brief ...

are you refering to Dr Jordaan Potgieter's PDF document or who's  There are serveral documents about Herman Janz Potgieter written by different people.

 

I search Dr Jordaan Potgieter's document on the Herman Janz Potgieter decendants and found an entry on page 11:

then further on at the bottom of p 12 we have your hubby's grandfather (I think)

1.1.6.4.7.2.2 has 8 children and the 6th child is :

Good day Cornelia,

I am an estate agent and went to list a farm close to Roosenekal yesterday. I found a lot of Potgieter graves there.
