Please Don't Edit Note from 2014 [closed]

+15 votes
Hello : )

I was going through and cleaning up certain profiles attached to Magna Carta profiles, and I came across this one. There is an edit message from two years ago stating not to edit the profile. I don't see anything too cumbersome to edit and this seems to fall under the guidelines of proactively cleaning up gedcom import leftover data. Any objections if I remove the message?

I don't. That profile needs editing.
Did you try to contact the person who left the note or the profile managers? I have a line that is a BIG issue for weird/bad merges and though I am not the profile manager - just an arborist trying to keep an eye on things., I posted a note, so that everyone involved will get involved in any further merges. Dealing with a bad merge from last week. This has been ongoing for more than a year, for my part, and I picked it up from another arborist who had a note up prior to that.

The person who left the note is quite active.  This was an issue of cleaning up the profile after various merges.  No new merges would be added during this cleanup.

I've encountered such notes a few times as well.  My suggestion for a policy on this is honor a no edit request up to 90 days.  Any older than that it should be removed (by any one).  And even within 90 days, totally useless data inserted from gedcom import can be removed as well to improve readability (that takes some good judgement, but if in doubt leave it).

It looks to me that someone put that there to prevent an editing conflict and forgot to remove it.  Two years is a long time to edit a profile.....

Ask the person, who added the note. You can find that by looking at the changes tab, and going back to find the person who added it. (you have the date)

It also looks like there is also a long standing issue over a merge with Standish-248 They have both the same name and dates but different mothers and siblings,

Maybe the Do not edit note was an attempt to use what information is there .to work out who this person was and whether they are a duplicate, but as has been suggested the person involved perhaps got involved in other things and didn't get back to Alexander.

Organized the profile after all merges , left everything in, just integrated all into one . Removed the 2014 note guess the profile has waited long enough now ;)
