How to list sources?

Hello, How do you add a source (and format)  like this?

the <ref> </ref> makes the inline footnote. Eg:

When you go into edit mode on a profile, there are multiple examples of how to add sources just to the right of the biography edit window, so you can always use those as reference points when trying to determine how to format a source.That being said, everyone has some subtle formatting differences in the way they put in their sources.

For this specific example, here is how I would reference this source:

* [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=49149616&PIpi=47004001 Find a Grave image of Death Certificate for Harriet Belcher]

** Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Standard Certificate of Death, County of Hopkins, Registrar's Number 5508947

I would also consider looking this up on Family Search and doing a direct link to the actual source and not one copied to Find A Grave, if you can find it there. Sometimes documents like this can only be found in these unique situations where someone has scanned and copied it out like this.

There's been some debate on the best way, but the basics are to create a <ref>, refer to that <ref> in the bio, and then list all ref's at the end with the <references /> tag.

I've updated Charles' page with an example using that death certificate.

Bottom line: put <ref name="uniqueString">"Description" link</ref> at the top. In the bio, refer to that ref with <ref name="uniqueString"/>. At the end put the <references /> tag to list all references in detail.

Putting the refs at the top causes [1][2]... to appear at the top which is a little inconvenient, but allows easy reference in the body of the bio, this is where there is some debate. You could also put this the first place in the body where you want to reference that footnote and any subsequent references to that footnote would use the <ref name="uniqueString"/>, but that seems messier and more error prone to me.

Anyplace in the body you use info from that reference, put a <ref name="uniqueString"/> and that area will get the foot note link like [1]. At the bottom, where the <references /> tag is, you'll get all the descriptions/links.
