This is a photo of Amanda Bellomy the daughter of George W. Bellomy and his first wife Margaret Stewart. Amanda was born 1832 in Greenup County, Kentucky. She married William H. Barber. When her father, George W. Bellomy,  decided to go west in 1842 on the first wagon train to Oregon he left Amanda, her mother Margaret, and sister Susan in Kentucky and never looked back. Local records referred to him as "gone to parts unknown".  It wasn't until George Bellomy's great, great, great grand-daughter discovered he had been baptized and married at the Mission Santa Clara in California that the family in Kentucky learned, "the rest of the story".

I wanted to share this family photo of Amanda Barber with the community. Location: Kentucky. Date: unknown.

Yes she does have a gaze that looks straight at you. I can't help wondering what occasion Amanda was so dressed up for that she had her picture taken. There is no clue. It is a pretty dress and I  love the little pearl buttons, lace, and pin at her throat. Definitely looks like a satin sash around her waist.

Great family story. You think he was looking for gold or just adventure. Thanks for sharing.

George W. Bellomy was a true rootin' tootin' Wild West adventurer.  He lived in exciting times and lived his life to the fullest.
