If I have an image of an obituary for an individual should it be posted here, and how is that done?

Hi Thom, yes you can post an obituary to a profile. First download it to your computer then transfer it to the profile. Click on the "Images" tab on the top of the profile page and follow the instructions.

BE mindful of copyright issues. If you have downloaded the obituary from the internet, the newservice owns the copyright or the provider may own the rights to the scan. Be very careful of posting copyrighted material.

Remember to cite the source, even on images. There is a box for this on the image page.

If the obit is old it may no longer be in copyright, so it's probably safe

Facts themselves are not copyrighted. Use them freely citing the source for your facts eg. <ref>"Mary Janes Dead". The London Times (London, England). May 5, 1987, pg 4 col. 3. Original copy in possession of me</ref>

Your best bet is to just use the information from the obituary - do not use the exact wording - just the information you need. Using your own words, you can make up your own obituary, but make sure that you state that you cite the source of your information. <ref>"Harold Smith Dead". The Daily Journal(Kankakee, IL).
