William Garrett was a private in the War of 1812 and Ohio Land management records of 1827 indicate that he was originally from Westmoreland, Pennsylvania which now be part of Washington County, Pennsylvania. He married Lucy Skinner in August 1821 (Belmont County, Ohio). Their children included: Joseph S, Andrew, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Catharine, Samuel, John, Lucy and Eliza. While some of the children (Joseph and Andrew) moved west to Fulton County, Ohio, William and Lucy remained lived in Ripley, Holmes County until their death. They are both buried in Ripley Township Cemetery. Census records indicate that William was born in Pennsylvania. There is a John Garret in Hopewell that may be the father but am unable to confirm that. There are two John Garrets listed in the 1800 federal census from Hopewell; one includes a household total of 8 people with two male sons under 10 which would fit with William's age but the other record does not fit. William is found in Ripley, Ohio census records from at least 1830-1860 along with Samuel and Andrew Garret that may or may not have been brothers or other relatives. Spellings of the last name vary between Garret and Garrett. Any additional information that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.
