I think I found the father! But....

I don't think I have enough to be sure.

Leonard Benson Morris lived in Texas and Oklahoma his entire life. He lived from the 1870's to 1937. Everything I know is on his profile. It's a start.

I hit somewhat of a dead end with him. His death certificate says he was named after his father. With a month of searching and no results I've decided maybe that's not true. So, here is what I found this morning:

* This is Gilbert. He lived in Texas at the time of Leonard's birth. In the 1880 Census he has a son of the right age; Leonard! Which is kind of a rare thing in the area I've been searching. Unfortunately there is no 1890 Census, and my Leonard married in 1899. I can't find anything for Gilbert in 1900, but he probably died.

Here is Gilbert's grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=40359866

My Leonard's info consistently states that his parents were born in Texas or Alabama. Gilbert and his wife are from Louisiana and Tennessee. That could be an easy mistake on my Leonard's part. Or I could have the wrong family!

And then, in the grave, you can see a Leonard as a son of Gilbert. That is not my Leonard. This Leonard was born in 1856. According to the census info, that is not Gilbert's son. The other ones appear to be the correct people. I fully understand that findagrave is not a reliable tool. I'm just saying my Leonard could be the right one...

Could anyone help me make a reliable connection?

I think this is the Gilbert Morris Family in 1900. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M357-8LF  Leonard is still single.

Definitely them! Probably not my Leonard.... Darn!
Sorry, wish my findings had been more positive.
I'll hunt him down sometime!
