Is it preferable to have duplicate info moved from references to sources

When my Gedcom tree is imported into wikitree people are created like follows:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hurved-52

Note  a particular record such as a census record often has multiple facts such as age and place of birth, so each referenced fact is listed with the identifying details duplicated

i.e

3. Source: #S29 Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@

11. Source: #S29 Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@

18.↑ Source: #S29 Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@

Then the source S29 is just listed as

Source: S29 Ancestry.com and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1881 England Census Publication: Name: Online publication - Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2004. 1881 British Isles Census Index provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints © Copyright 1999 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved. All use is subject to the l;

I thinks it much more readable and manageable to put that duplicate information into the the S29 part so you would have

3. Source: #S29

11. Source: #S29

18.↑ Source: #S29

Source: S29 Ancestry.com and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1881 England Census Publication: Name: Online publication - Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2004. 1881 British Isles Census Index provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints © Copyright 1999 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved. All use is subject to the l;

Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@

And actually Im not bothered that this particular census image was provided by Ancestry, the key thing is the reference so I would shorten  to

3. Source: #S29

11. Source: #S29

18.↑ Source: #S29

Source: S29 1881 England Census Publication: Name:

Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@

Ive made an attempt in this form for http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hurved-127

Im still getting the hang of the wiki formatting but essentially would you view this as improvement or not.

Yes If all those pieces of info in the references are the same definitely move them to the sources section as you have shown in your example

yes the 1881 England Census is the important bit. I would also list the physical place of the Census. (County, town etc.)

You could also: On the first occurrence of the repeating source add <ref name=Census1881>1881 England Census, Whatever county and town, Class: RG11; Piece: 1314; Folio: 90; Page: 25; GSU roll: 1341319 File @M660@</ref>       (note the file @M660@ probably is not part of the citation.)

Then each time you use it again type <ref name=Census1881 />

After == Sources ==
Add <references />

You will get a nice repeating footnote. See Advanced Sourcing on the help page. Here's an example

Paul - The span tags that come in through gedcoms are pretty awkward and overly complex. Here's what the bio of Hurved-127 would look like with the span tags removed and Advanced Sourcing used:

I find all the gedcom gobbledygook pretty much unreadable. I'd much rather see a few clean links to online sources that support the facts any day.
Thankyou, that is much better ( I did search the style guide and for soe reaso didnt find that page about advanced sourcing) - I have now updated the profile in the way you suggest.

It makes me wonder how much time could be saved if we improved how gedcom trees imports create the sources.
