Hello, I am needing help with finding my GGgrandparents, August and Matilda Robinson.  August was born approx 1848 and Matilda in 1847.  Both were born in Ireland. They had my GGrandmother Matilda in 1885 in Virginia.  I am at a brick wall here.. My GGrandmother married John Hamilton Tyree.  I would appreciate any help I can get with this.. I am new to Wiki tree and still learning my way around..

Thank you

The best help I can offer would be to suggest make the profiles first of the people between you and them and then ask this question.  Good luck!
Oh MY GOODNESS thank you so much for this help... I have tried for a month on Ancestry.com and had no luck.  I appreciate your help.  I am adding people to my tree now but I fear I may home dates wrong and trying to research each person can be daunting... I have traced most my branches to many kings and queens and other famous people.  I love doing this..

The Hanna surname yielded this  information about it's history:

Last name: Hanna

This interesting surname has a number of possible sources. Firstly, the surname may be of early medieval English origin, and is from the female given name "Hannah" or "Anna", from the Hebrew "Chana", meaning "He (God) has favoured me (i.e. with a child)". This was an extremely popular name in the form of "Anne" and its variations throughout Christendom, partly due to its being the name of the mother of Samuel in the Bible, and to the belief that St. Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary. Secondly, the surname may be Scottish, where it is also found as Hannay, and means "son of Senach", from the Gaelic "ap Sheanaigh". It is also a locational name from an unidentified or lost place. An estimated seven to ten thousand villages and hamlets are known to have disappeared since the 12th Century, due to such natural causes as the Black Death of 1348, and to the widespread practice of enforced "clearing" and enclosure of rural lands for sheep pastures from the 15th Century onwards. John of Hanna was master of a ship belonging to James 1, King of Scotland, in 1424. Finally, the surname may be of Irish origin, and is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic "O'hAnnaigh", descendant of Annach, a byname meaning "Iniquity". Practically all the Irish Hanna's today belong to north-east Ulster, where they are numerous. On April 27th 1627, Elizabeth, daughter of Robert and Ann Hanna, was christened at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, and William Hanna married Jannet Ervine in 1692, at Clones, County Monaghan. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Gilbert de Hannethe, Wiggetone, which was dated 1296, when he rendered homage, during the reign of John Balliol, King of Scotland, 1292 - 1296. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Not knowing August Robinson's birth year, I guessed that he married Matilda in Virginia as that's where their daughter, Matilda, was born.

By entering the information that you provided plus the VA marriage guess at familysearch.org , the result provided some of the info you were looking for.

Here's what surnamedb.com has for the Robinson surname:

Last name: Robinson

This is one of the most interesting and evocative surnames of the British Isles, whilst being recorded throughout the English speaking world. It is a medieval patronymic from the given name Robin, itself a diminutive of the popular Anglo-Saxon pre 7th century personal name Robert. This was originally a compound name with the elements "hrothi", and "berhta", meaning "fame-bright". As such it is first recorded in England in the famous Domesday Book of 1086. It is said that the name was originally made popular by Robin Goodfellow, whose mischievous tricks were later described in Shakespeare's, "Midsummer Night's Dream", and perhaps even more so by Robin of Locksley, otherwise known as Robin Hood, who it is said (without too much evidence) stole from the rich to give to the poor. The surname was first recorded in the latter half of the 13th Century (see below), and one Margaret Robines appeared in the Hundred Rolls of Cambridgeshire, dated 1279. In the modern idiom, the surname can be found recorded as Robyns, Robins, Robens, Robbings, Robinson and Robens. Recordings from early surviving London church registers include: the marriage of Helen Robinson and Thomas Grene on October 1st 1548, at St. Leonard's, Eastcheap, and the marriage of Christopher Robinson and Jone Millman on November 4th 1565, at St. Mary Abchurch, London. An early settler in the New World Colonies was John Robinson, aged 26, who sailed from London on the ship "Peter Bonaventure", bound for the 'Barbadoes' in April 1635. The Coat of Arms most associated with the name is a green shield charged with a gold chevron between three gold bucks standing at gaze. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Dera Robins, which was dated 1273, in the Hundred Rolls of Cambridgeshire. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

There's an Augustus Robinson in Cloughkeating, Modreeny, in County Tipperary in the Griffiths Valuation. This could be your man, or his father. I would proceed to check parish records for baptisms in 1850 or so. Do you know what religion they were??
