Here is an excellent article on the process historians went through to get to the truth of Daniel Boone.  How they had to sort out Myths vs Realities and the complexities of identifying primary sources.  Notice how many "sources" refer to one original source.

Excellent reading. I am a "stickler" for sources. I do have some books that I utilize, but within those, only specific pages that back up other sources.
