I am currently researching the origins of the Irish national flag...I would be grateful if anyone has any further information on the family links of Joseph Hamilton who may have been the man who inspired the flag of green, white and orange ..
According to the "Irish Rush-light "of 1831, Amelia Eleanor Hamilton of Annadale Cottage,Dublin Ireland ,presented a cockade of orange ,white and green to the chairman ,The Marquis of Westmeath, at a function in Dublin in September 1830 ,
In a covering letter she mentioned that her father had worn a similar cockade in his hat ..Her father may have been Joseph Hamilton of Annadale Cottage who had written several books ...I do have some information on Joseph Hamilton , including a picture of him but I am trying to establish if he was the person alluded to by Amelia Eleanor.
This is a link to one of Joseph Hamilton's books which can be read and which can be downloaded from the internet..
