How is it that there are so many trees listing Sarah Fowle as a mother after she died?

It seems that James Webber, probably married a few times - the last marriage doesn't seem to be recorded anywhere - but so many trees list Sarah Fowle as being a mother to numerous children years after her death.

I have an oddity in my own tree. My great grandmother lied about her age so often that all the info I can find on her puts her born 2 years after her mother died. We have from cousins information the info and links to great great grandmother's grave and great grandmothers grave which reflect the 2 year gap. I am searching for info to get a correct year listing on her birth year.

I don't know if this is the same situation you are looking at but that is one reason.

I can find that James and Sarah had two children in Medford: Sarah b. 1758; and Mary, b. 1760, d. 1762.

Here are several reasons why more children might be shown:

  • James married a second wife named Sarah and had more children who were erroneously attributed to Sarah Fowle.
  • Sarah didn't die in 1764.  I found an Ahnentafel chart published at AmericanAncestors.org that shows that Sarah died after 1778.(D. Alden Smith, "An Ahnentafel as a Record of Migration and Mobility" Published Date: October-November 1988 (http://www.americanancestors.org/StaticContent/articles?searchby=author&subquery=D.%20Alden%20Smith&id=903)
  • The extra children were born to a James and Sarah Webber in Chester Township, Nova Scotia.  James went to Nova Scotia.  The assumption was made that these were his children, but the connection isn't documented.

Without finding a death record for Sarah Fowle, or a 2nd marriage record for James, we won't know for sure if these extras are Sarah's children.
