Like to start a discussion on how to make a determination for the "Category: Free Persons of Color."
Obviously land records, or other legal documents, But how about just the face that someone shows up in a US Census prior to 1870. I would assume if they were counted as a Head of house they were free persons. Is there anything else that you might be aware of that would indicate free status.
