Lorraine. The goal on wikitree is to have one profile for each person. Some ancestors have thousands of decendants. So when new members come on to wikitree they often create profiles for ancestors who have one or more profiles for one person already on wikitree. Duplicate profiles often create problems because when they are added to it causes lines to split in different directions. So it is necessary to combine such profiles into one profile. On wikitree this is called merging . It is necessary to compare these profiles before merging to make sure they are the same. At the bottom of the profile page merge requests are shown. You click on the request and a comparison comes up. I think it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with your profile page and check out the tabs at the top of the pages and get to know all that info BEFORE you proceed to other actions. They are your friends. You can also ask for a mentor. Great people on wikitree and helpful. It can be frustrating to learn. Relax. And ask for help , like you have done. I hope this helps. Good luck.
