Desperate looking for help on finding my great grandfather

Question

I have searched for my great grandfather for over 20 years. I have made contact with someone whom has informed mee that she is the cousin of my great grandfathers paternal grandaughter. This tells me he had a second family. This person that has given me the info has not followed through with any other info and no doubt for her own reasons and saddens me as I have freely given my family history with her. So my question is this ..... how can I find any clue to my great grandfather based on the little info i have and the family tree I have on them on ancestry. PLEASE HELP DESPERTATE

I just posted an obituary on Eleanor Marias profile which I think was only recently added to Trove. It offers some small info mentioning Two sons and two daughters being alive. So this dates your James as being alive in 1928. There are some errors in the Obit though. It says Eleanors husband survived her and mentions Amos Fahy instead of Ambrose Fahey.

I also notice the death of a John Standen in the South Australian registries which have recently gone online. No relative mentioned.

What is the last date and location for which you have any cerrtainty?

Interesting that the death certificate of the *second* wife lists children that the profile page associates with the *first* wife. Yet they are clearly not the second wife's children if a) she was married only 25 years, and b) the children are older than 25 years of age.

In fact, it would appear that the second wife (the deceased of the death certificate) had no children-- unless they're the dead ones-- as there is no child listed on her death certificate younger than 25 years.

Further confusing:

There are two different marriages listed in the narrative on James Standen's page (he born 1879, therefore the son). But the two James listed in the narrative (with two different spouses and two different sets of children) are not the same man. One is the father; the other the son.

There are some data problems, then, with these profiles that need teasing apart. 

And the married 25 years for the 1928-deceased woman who supposedly matches the married 1876 marriage to James the father remains confusing as well.

The 25 refers to her age at time of marriage, not the number of years married.

James was an oft used name for the Standens so often there is confusion. The problem person here is the James Standen b. 1879, son of James Standen (1844-1913) and Eleanor Maria Standen nee Hayes (1852-1928). Eleanor was aged 25 at the time of her marriage.

The James Standen b. 1879 married Marion Price in Tasmania in 1903 and had 4 children, the last in 1909. Some time 1909 he seems to have abandoned his family and disappeared. Vikki has a page with a little more info on her elusive Standen at:

hi jillaine i have just seen your message my elusive james was born 1879 his father was james also born 1844. james 1879 married and had four children and then vanished. i have info on ancestry and a  person searching james has told me that she is the cousin of james paternal granddaughter but will not share any info. so this tells me james had another family. he has obviously changed his name as i am unable to find him under standen
