I am a direct descendant (unbroken male line) of my gggg grandfather, William (AKA Willhelm) Gray, who was enumerated in the 1790, 1800, and 1810 Census of Laurens, SC. William died without a will in Jan., 1816 (date is based on Administrative Bond issued to Sarah Teague Gray, his wife, on Feb 22, 1816). I have a copy of the 44 pg Estate Packet. Also, I have located a number of deeds from the 1790 - 1810 period which include references to William Gray (AKA Wm Gray) owning, buying, selling land which was "adj." (adjacent) to Garrett Gray in the Laurens and Newberry County area. In one deed it indicates Garrett's wife name as Susannah.
Based on the Census reports,Estate papers, and these various deeds, there appears to be enough indication to link William to Garrett Gray as a relative. I have taken the FTDNA Y 37 test and have matched with at least two people who are clearly descendants of Garrett Gray, indicating a genetic match did exist between William and Garrett. One of my matches has documentation from DAR confirming him as descendant of Garrett Gray, Revolutionary War soldier.
Is there anyone who is a descendant of this William Gray, Garrett Gray (his brother?), or Isaac Gray (his brother?)....all whom lived for a period of time in Laurens, SC?
They also had two other brothers, all children of Gerretje AKA Garrett Gray, Sr. and Ellydea "Lydia" Gray. Those brothers were John and Robert.
