Did You Know That Google Searches Are Country-Sensitive?

I know that I use Google searches many times every day, but it never occurred to me that, as I live in the United States, my Google results differ from those I might get if I lived in England or France.  Google has many different search engines, mainly country-based.  If you are looking for information about Switzerland, you will get the best results by doing a Google search on the Swiss Google search engine.

There is an informative article in the GenealogyInTime Magazine about the different search engines.  It includes the urls for Google in most countries.  You can find the article at GenealogyInTime.

I  regularly use both google UK and google France  .However you can often still get more results from the US than you want (and also Canada on google France) If  after the initial search, you go to the search tools, the button on the left allows you to be more specific, the default setting is results from anywhere, you can change  that to UK. Similarly on Google France,  the button is labelled, Tous and you have a choice between tous les pays and France.
I've shortcuts in my browser for google.co.uk and google.com.au. I use both regularly
Also, if Google can tell where you are (within the country from which your are searching), your search results may be "customized" to focus on results related to your geographic location or the domain to which your IP address is registered. And if you are logged in to Google, your search results will be "customized" based on your past search history.
Learned something else new, but it does make sense.  If I live in Austin and want a pizza, I don't want to know about pizza parlors in Philadelphia. Thanks.
