G2G: Anyone know of ellis indian heritage-they were from tn area

Story has it that indian boy was adopted by mrs. Ellis when indian families died near Reelfoot lake from smallpox and only baby lived  

This happened in 1800's

He would have been the father of James monroe Ellis

Story has it the name would have been Sanford before adoption

My grandmother, Lucy Catherine Ellis, always said we had indian blood. She ended up living in Missouri, Illinois and California. She married Leon Clifford McAmis, Sr. who was a doctor in St. Louis. I haven't done much work on this line, but I do know she had a brother named James. Any link? Joan McAmis
