I Want to add my parents,  (Lathrop-737) and  (Van de Streek-89) to my profile, but I can't adopt them.

When profiles have been abandoned like this while having the privacy level less than open, a special situation exists where one needs to send a message to info@wikitree.com and explain your relationship to these profiles.  That will likely enable you to adopt the profiles.
