Looking for father of James Moy born 1749 Hindolveston Parish Norfolk England

+5 votes
Looking for record of birth and father of James Moy born approximately 1749. He married Elizabeth Buck in 1770 in Guist Norfolk. Parish records have him listed as from Hindolveston.

Both Elizabeth's and James' ages shown as 21 years, but I know this could be just to show they were of legal age to marry. Edward Buck was a witness of the marriage. They were married by banns not a licence. I have been through all parish records within 5 miles of Hindolveston and Guist. Is there anyone who can help

My surname traces back to Norwich and Wood Norton, Norfolk, England.
Thank you, Frank for those suggestions. I have checked those people in parish records and they aren't my direct ancestors. They are probably related at some point in my history though.

This James Moy also has father Theophilus (and there can't have been more than one surely) but a different mother... Hunworth looks to be about 2 miles from Hindolveston. It may be worth a look.

I'm new around here so haven't yet put them onto the site, but I have a Mary Moy marrying Nicholas Applegate in Stody in April 1747. They then bring up their brood in Hunworth. All within a day's trudge for simple farming folk. Mary could be your James' aunt given the dates. I tried to trace her origins a couple of years ago and gave up as I found records which could have been her in Wood Dalling 1722, Hindolveston 1724 and Wells next the Sea in 1719. This all from a scrap of paper with notes in pencil, which also says 'lots of Moys in Felmingham.' Also thought at the time that Moy can so easily look like May. I will try and dig my way back to that Hindolveston reference and let you know if I find it. My Mary Moy died in Hunworth August 1787 aged 68, a pauper.
