I am looking for the John Stewart lineage. John Stewart was born Belfast ireland 1 Sept, 1833. He was a confectioner in Belfast.  His father was on his wedding certificate (Married Mary Peden March 1856) as a John Stewart, Farmer. They lived in Newry and married in Newry. He had a daughter called Matilda (born Ireland, 1833), son called Hugh Joseph Stewart, another daughter Isabel Stewart (both born in Australia). On John Stewart juniors death certificate (1919 Australia) his mothers name is Isabel Stewart (formerly McDowell).  He migrated in Nov 1856 to Ballarat Victoria.. I need to trace back to find our Stewart ancestors in Scotland. If anyone can help assist any further I would sincerely appreciate it. I have exhausted hours of research and nothing is matching together.

Hi,

A few Stewarts settled in N.Ireland from Isle of Bute, Scotland. John is common in Bute Stewarts. Have you had any male Stewarts DNA tested? I have Stewart cousins we could compare DNA.

Regards,

John

About three years later...  In FamilySearch, there is an Irish Civil Registration, 1845-1913, which shows that John Stewart's father was... (wait for it):  John Stewart.  Marriage date of 31 Mar 1856.  Mary's father is given as John Peden.  Here is the FULL citation:

"Ireland Civil Registration, 1845-1913," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGVD-9MP5 : 17 March 2018), John Stewart and Mary Peden, Marriage 31 Mar 1856, Newry, Newry, Ireland; citing General Register Office, Dublin; FHL microfilm 101,379.
