Trying to get information on Edward Hoare , my maternal great grandfather, who arrived in Upper Hutt, Wellington NZ in 1870s from Cornwall.Cannot find him on any shipping lists and not sure when he arrived. Married Hannah Gough in 1874 ( or 1877?) in Upper Hutt.

Hi, I am a bit new to all of this.

The George Hoare I have in my family Tree is my Maternal Great Grandfather.I have him married to Marian Standen and a daughter, Edith Blanche Hoare who married Thomas Herbert Brice Goodland.

I don't have much detail beyond that, and at the moment I can;t answer the question.

Good luck with the search. I am sorry I don;t have any more to offer at the moment

I don't have any solid info at the moment. I have my Maternal Grandparents wedding certificate which names George Henry Hoare.  I have him married the Marian Standen based on information provided which I have not as yet validated, but I take to be true. I believe there are some complexities in the tree, and it is possible that George Henry may have married more than once. Keep an eye on what I am adding, as I will be digging into this part of the tree soon. If you have anything that may help, I would be pleased to have it.

OK. I have done some more work.

The George Henry Hoare in my tree.

Born Lezant, Cornwall UK, Christened January 10, 1833, which seems to be taken as born shortly before that even.

He married an Agnes Louise ? and produced Ida, Amy, Sydney, Eva and George.

The then married Marian Standen and produced Alice, Audrey and Edith.

Frankly, I think that is productive enough, however there seems to be a blank decade between Agnes and Marian - George born 1871 and Alice born 1881. I have looked and I can;t find and edward yet.

If you have some idea of the date of birth family search may help you find it. Don't forget to look in the census records, they are a treasure trove.

George Hoare moved from Cornwall to London and his family were born and raised there (and are well documented here using the census returns), so even if Edward Hoare was their son, he would be "of London" when he reached NZ rather than "of Cornwall".

Your best bet seems to be Edward Hoare, born 1849 Launceston, Cornwall.

1851 census Parents Edward Hoare ag lab 34? born Stoke Climsland Sarah (Heard) 23, Elizabeth 2, Edward 1, William 1 month.

Parents married 1848 Launceston. Sarah remarried John Westlake and Edward and she were still in Launceston in 1861.

Edward is still there as an unmarried basket maker in 1871. Not in 1881.
