Does anyone have a "definitive" source list for use in constructing a lineage dating back to pre-1500s?

I'm attempting to solidify my ancestry back to Charlemagne and I'm running into issues with credible sources.

Please let others know how many generations back you are able to properly document.  The most extensive I know of is only ten generatons!

See: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Tops#Ancestry

There must be more extensive lines that have been sufficiently documented.  If you know of others then please add them to WikiTree Tops.

Here is a list of sources for the Middle Ages. You may find more information here.

Hello Bradley

Statistically speaking apparently almost everyone with European heritage is a descendant of Charlemagne, but as you say proving that link can be very difficult.

If you let us know a few more details about where in your ancestry you run into problems with credible sources, someone may be able to suggest other sources to consider.
