I just found this amusing and thought I would share. I'm finally going through one of my maternal lines and giving it the attention it deserves. I was looking for marriage info for one of my great great aunts, since all of the family came from Italy to Niagara Falls, NY around 1890 I was looking at various NY sources. Nothing, then I find her name in Philadelphia, in 1897. It seems at the age of 17 she and the groom, who was 15 yrs older than her took off to Philly. Her name was on a list at the Philadelphia Orphans Court as being allowed to marry. She added a year to her age and must have told the court she was an orphan. 4 hours later I'm still laughing.
