His spouse was Harriet Fordyce married 1843,  Second wife as Permilia ( not sure of spelling).  Born in  Ohio, lived there until 1830's,  then onto Illinois and Finally to Iowa.  He went back to Ohio in 1840 to vote for Benjamin Harrison.

David Fry  was born in Clermont county Ohio in 1817-1819. Died in Iowa 1870-1880. I am looking for his Parents names.

Do you have the name of his spouse? Did he stay in Ohio, move to Iowa or to another location? Marriage date, death year and location for each event would help gain a stronger foothold on researching his ancestors.

I have information on some Fry names that were listed.

Sarah, Martha, Jacob Hannah, John, Solomon,Mary,Ross

I seem to be related to John D C Fry born in Ohio 1844

But I thought my David Fry was born in PA, I may need to do more research, it has been years since I researched.

Note: this memorial updated January 8, 2016.

David's parents are not named in any family group sheets or other information found so far. He was, per his obituary, born in Clermont county, Ohio, but because he moved to Iowa in 1840 he would not have been listed on the 1850 census of his parents (assuming that one or both of them were living a/o 1850), as the 1850 census was the first to name household members other than the head of household. A search of Clermont county, Ohio vital records, church records, etc. would probably be the only way to determine the names of his parents.

KILLED BY A RUNAWAY.

(Note: the first few paragraphs of this obituary are omitted due to the graphic text that described his manner of death in Fairfield, Iowa, as a result of a team of horses that were spooked by another animal)

".... Mr. Fry was in the 71st year of his age. He was born in Clermont, Ohio, and grew to manhood there. He came to Iowa in 1840, in company with Timothy Day, a well known early settler of Van Buren county, and remained there with that gentleman for three years. Then he removed to Cedar township, this county, settling on a farm on which he lived until his removal to this city nearly two years ago, and where he has voted for 40 years, never missing an election. August 28, 1843, Mr. Fry was married to Miss Harriet Fordyce (sic), a sister of Hon. Lewis Fordyce of this county, who died 14 years ago. Seven children now living, five sons and two daughters, were the fruit of this marriage. All the sons now resided in Cedar township, while the daughters, Mrs. M. Watkins and Mrs. J. M. Williams, live at Belleville, Kan. April 2, 1876, Mr. Fry was again married to Mrs. Permelia F. Allen, who survives him. Both in the community in which he lived and throughout the county David Fry was known as a thoroughly honest and upright man, a kind parent, husband and neighbor, and a good citizen. He was an industrious and progressive farmer, and had prospered in this world's affairs. His sudden and violent death has brought sorrow to many a heart, and his death will be quite generally mourned.

The funeral will occur today, and the remains will be taken to the Bethany Church cemetery*, two miles east of Winchester, Van Buren County, for interment.

* now known as Fordyce cemetery.
