Who were John Scott's parents

Question

I would like to find out who John Scott b1842   parents and grandparents were, John was married to Mary, who later married 'Dodd'. John and Mary had one child Walter b abt 1869. I have hit a 'roadblock' and am unable to trace these ancestors further
