Family One Name Study

+7 votes
I am making an inquiry to see how many people would be interested in participating in a Churchill family " One Name Study ". There is lots of work to be done on the present Churchill profiles and perhaps we can discover connections to our English Churchill roots.  If so, does anyone have the expertise to set it up a one name study ?

If, as I assume, it at least includes wives' names when found (without following their ancestors) then I would be interested.  But I don't have sources readily available to go deeper than what I already have.  I guess I could go to the library and use their access.  Or I could help analyze data that somebody else has acquired.  Could we focus on our own geographical origin?  (Mine is from Oxfordshire to Virginia.)

As far as present profiles are concerned, I can't even convince PMs to include my Churchill daughter ancestor in my ancestral line with solid evidence.  So from what I've seen here on all lines, it's hard to get corrections made to links even when they don't have sources for the present state.  I'm almost ready to turn my back on Wiki-anything.  Collaboration would be good, but it needs to be at a level where people are serious about making the right connections, which isn't the case here.

I agree, spouses and children should be included as they are an integral part of the family group. It was my thought to include all four North American lines. the Plymouth, Connecticut, Virginia and Manhattan Churchills as well as those researching the English Churchills. I am suggesting a clean up of the existing profiles by connecting solo files and merging duplicates, file clean up, completing the family tree as there are approximately another 20000 of the North American family to be added and perhaps working groups to connect the four branches to their English ancestors. English researchers would also be an important factor in the project.

These are only my ideas and I would like to see everyone's input in developing a framework and system. I may be a bit ambitious with my ideas, so that is why I am seeking input. Time will tell if the idea is feasible and supported.
