Ruby Olive (Banks) Davis

Question

Ruby was the daughter James K Banks and Mary "Polly" Ann Arbuckel.

Ruby was born in 1891

1891-1899 likely Mary "Polly" Ann Arbuckel died because James K Banks marries 2nd) Nancy J Rhoades Chandler.

In 1900 James K and Nancy are living with Carrie and Thomas (2 of James' children) and Nannie (Nancy's daughter).

Question is - what happened to Ruby Olive and her brother Moses Cass in 1900? They would have been about 9 and 10. The siblings living with their father, Carrie and Thomas, about 16 and 18.

Looks like Moses Banks was an inmate in a children's home in 1900.

I'm guessing that his mother could have died in chilbirth, and inmate may be a poor choice of words. If he was only 11 years old while there and the place was said to be an orphans home, it may have been a convenient place to keep him because his mother was not available to look after him. If his sister was there she would have lived in a facility on the other side of the river. Boys were on one side of the river and girls on the other. Classes were provided from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

This place actually looks pretty nice. I checked into the resources to check on admissions, unfortunately the online references are down. There are records available for viewing at the Indiana State Archives. If I ever get to Indiana, that might be a stop. Ruby is my son's great great grandmother.

Did not find Ruby in 1900, found her in 1910, 1930 and 1940. Found at least one more child of hers than was in the WikiTree profile, Betinna J Davis who was 12 in 1930 US Census.

that makes sense and fills in another question I had regarding James K and Mary Ann's children. They were baby making machines and there was a gap between 1884-1890 - not anymore with the addition of Orval.
