Hello and happy 3-day weekend. Memorial Day is an interesting time, as it is often misinterpreted as an opportunity of remembrance for those of us who have served in the military. This is incorrect. That's Veteran's Day.

Memorial Day is that time to remember those who have fallen in battle. I heard a statistic the other day that in the history of the United States, 1.25 MILLION soldiers have died while in service to our country. I would venture to say that a large percentage of those perished during the Civil War and the World Wars. So I offer my salute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and think this would be a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect back on our own family trees and find those fallen heroes in the branches who could use some TLC.

Yes, to many it's more being happy about a 3-day weekend than really pausing to think of the reason. Thanks for your post.

Let's see here.  I was in Vietnam in 1971-2 in the US Army, My father was in the Seebees in 1945 but the war ended before he went overseas.  My dad's brother, Uncle Bob was in the Navy I believe.  My mother's brother, Uncle Bill Miller was in the US Army in tanks but this was after Korea.  I'd have to look to see if any of my other close relatives served.

My father was in the Army Air Corps Dave, and my youngest brother is now retired from the Marines. My family has fought in every war this Country (USA) has been in. Some ended up getting land for fighting in wars for other countries. That was more then 300 years ago.

Thank you John for remembering our military. Thank you Dave for your service and your family members' service.  I was in the Army during the Vietnam War, did 20 years total. (1968-1988). I am grateful for the ones who went before us to serve their country during difficult times. We having various Memorial programs in our county honoring those who gave their all, who sacrificed everything including their life.. We honor their families and ancestors as well.
