Any advantage to adopting before merging?

I was just merging two copies of a profile I accidentally created in short order and thinking about how easy it is to merge two profiles when you're PM of both, I wondered if there's any necessity or advantage to adopting an orphaned profile before doing a merge?

If both profiles that need to be merged are orphaned profiles, it would help to adopt them both before you propose a merge so that the merge is immediately approved.

If one is orphaned and the other has a PM, there could possibly be an advantage If the PM promptly approves the merge.

If both profiles are orphaned, the merge is immediately approved. That is, you can merge them immediately. (Unless I'm remembering things wrong. I did a merge like this within the last 24 hours, so my memory is pretty fresh.)
