Is there a way to turn off the social media links on some pages?

I noticed that the wikitree pages initially load quickly, but there is a considerable wait time for the social media links to complete on the page. This morning, it was so slow, the chrome "wait" message kept appearing. I had to stop working. The screen appears in seconds but loading these social media links can take between 30 seconds and a minute.

It only takes one of the social media sites to be slow to cause this. Two sets of links appear on the profile page. One at the top and one at the bottom. When I compare two profiles, it reloads both profiles and has to load 4 instances of these social media buttons o this screen.  Then if I decide to merge, it loads these links on the merge page.

At times, it takes so long, I forget the reasons for the merge and have to go back.I have a fairly fast laptop and fairly high-speed fiber optic internet connection but on a couple of occasions, the page times out.

I am suggesting implementing some mechanism that allows us to turn off these links or at least turn them off when we are clearly performing administrative tasks.

I've asked the same questions, Ken, especially when comparing profiles. I've given up on creating rejected matches for the time being because of this issue.

I run the Firefox browser.  I'm running Ghostery and NoScript as add on's and it takes care of the social media drivel to let me work. It can be turned on and off. Takes a little tweaking to get used to, but wow, I have the internet back without a lot of bs loading.  I don't know if these programs work with Chrome, but it might be worth looking in to.

Thanks! I use Firefox too - I'll have to try this to fix the horrible slowness I encounter sometimes. Cheers, Liz
Thank you Kellie, Hopefully you have just solved my problem :)
