Long story short - a family story was passed through the years that my greatgrandfather, Henry McGraw, was not the son his parents (Michael and Catherine Sands McGraw) but was the son of an older sister. Through the years I have found conflicting information (census records, military records, delayed birth certificate) until one day I found a baptism record stating his parents to be Margaret McGraw (an older sister) and what looks like Joanne (John) Horner.
I can not find a John Horner in Shelby, Ohio prior to Henry's birth (1877) or after. Maggie is living with her parents in the 1880 census but can find no marriage records or death records for her after 1880. What happened to Margaret McGraw and John Horner?
Many of the McGraws moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area to work on the railroad.
