Could Coonrad Kern have Jewish roots

Question

What lead me to this was I was reading about how a lot of the Kerns from Germany left their Jewish heritage behind due to the prejudice they had to deal with there and this "Coonrad" Kern is my wife's 5x great grandfather. She has a booklet written on "Conrad" Kern by Mary Margaret Kern Garrard printed in 1968. Are you aware of it? We were curious as to whether this family may have left their Jewish heritage behind when they left Germany and we weren't sure how we could find out. Thanks! Jim Short  Short-1331  Thompson-2421
