Error Report: Is anyone getting errors for profiles they don't manage?

+7 votes
I rec'd an error for someone who is not blood related, nor am I the profile manager of the subject. The subject is an in-law of a gggggreatuncle.  I had similar errors on the previous report that I corrected aswell.  Is this a glitch in the system? .

How did you get the error report?  And what was the error code?  Was it a report you initiated or a message from perhaps one of the db_errors project people?

I have received error reports on six profiles I don't manage, but I am related to either the persons the profiles represent or the persons the profiles represent are related to my blood relatives though I'm not a blood relation to the people themselves.

What I've done was to e-mail the profile manager to get them to correct the data.  No results on my contacts to date.  The errors still keep showing up on my error report.

If errors were corrected, they will disappear tomorrow, since there was some delays in today's import. Message will be posted in G2G, when it is done. Recheck after that.

Absolutely! The error check runs along connected profile lines and not by who manages the profiles. We are a collaborative group, after all. So feel free to review the errors with profiles not managed by you, and if you can clearly see that the data is wrong AND can prove it, proceed with making the change - BUT - make sure you add in the appropriate comments so that it is clear to the PM why you chose to change it.

Sounds like good advice, but I never heard of any of these folks, and anyway don't even have edit access in all cases.

For each generation I add both parents, children and spouses. That is the idea of Global tree. I could add an option to see errors of only ancestors or descendants but there wouldn't be many errors. You can decide, where to stop correcting errors. Soon you will be able to see also errors of profiles in your watchlist.

Update Watchlist errors you find here

I have tried to contact the profile managers as I am not free to edit the data on the profiles as I am not on the trusted list of any of the profiled persons.

Not only am I not related, I'm not the Profile Manager and CANNOT correct these errors.

There are others, too, but these are representative.

Despite the non-sensical reply to my earlier comment above, it does matter how you get the report.  There are multiple options and they include different things.  If you get the report from the menu on a profile page, you get everyone connected to that profile within however many generations is set as the limit (default may be 10; I just got 8 on a test).  This type of error report is NOT supposed to be limited to just your watchlist, or ones you can fix.  It never was; but, there are now more options, like bloodline and watchlist if you access the report in other ways (e.g. through the beta interface).

Default was reduced on 8 one month ago.

As Mikey said, spouses are also relatives and their trees are included in report initiated from Wikitree.

On this page you can refine error report in a few ways.
