My ancestor Pte Thomas Conway of the British East India Company, married a woman called Elizabeth/Margaret in Saugar North India in 1826. Since there were no British women in the area at the time, we are fairly sure that the wife was native Indian. That was family story even before we discovered the marriage in the British India records. I saw on the British "Who Do You THink You are?" that Billy Connolly also has British/Indian heritage and that it was possible to find the baptismal records of the Indian women who married the soldiers. Has anyone experience in this area?
