Looking for my McCarthy relatives

Hi there,

Looking for McCarthy relatives. Great great grandfather John McCarthy born in Abbeyliex, Ireland. Great great grandmother Ellen McCarthy ( nee Kavanagh) . Looking to correspond and/or meet  with relatives here and overseas. Thanks for your help!!

I also am searching for my McCarthy relatives, Julie.   I'm sorry to say, I know nothing about them other than my Great-Great Grandfather was Joseph McCarthy, born in Ireland in 1837, died 1906, Butte, Montana.  He and his brother, Simon McCarthy, came to the U.S. around 1865.

He married Kate Shea in 1867, and they lived in Ironwood, Gogebic Co., Michigan. In 1900, they were living in Butte, Montana.  My Great-Grandfather John McCarthy,a widower, was living with them in 1910.

Do you think they're the same McCarthys?

Hi Loretta...sorry for taking so long to respond to you but I'm just seeing this now. I don't think it's the same John Mccarthy. My great great grandpa passed away after 1937 in NYC. I don't know of any of the McCarthy's going to Montana either.  My Mccarthy family is from Abbeyliex, County Laois in Ireland.  Do you know where in Ireland they are from specifically? That might help...I posted a message similar to the one above on an Irish Parish site for County Laois and got a response from a cousin there..you might want to try the same :)

Thanks, Julie.  Sorry I took so long, I still have masstered navigating these message boards.   Thanks so much for the tip about posting on a Parish site for the County in Ireland.   I've not been able to find where in Ireland he was born, but some knowledgeable  people on the Beara Roots website suggested he and his wife, Kate Shea McCarthy are from Cork.   So that is where I'll start the search.   I appreciate your help.  Good luck to you in your searches.  :),
