This question was asked of my grandparents many times.
The story goes that our original family last name was Padfield but that there was a remarriage and the children all adopted the last name of Steele.
This could be completely backwards.
My family goes back many generations in Ontario, Canada - specifically the Muskoka/Great Lakes Region, around Bracebridge and Utterson.
I am looking for information to support (?) the story - or at least track down the padfield link.
