Locked Profile

I was just adding some sources to determine the birthdate on http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/May-285.

I entered a birth year from the census, selected the Uncertain indicator and the "about/uncertain but non-living" radio button for the death date, and when I saved it, I got the warning that living people couldn't have the privacy level of Open.

???

Could a sysop please unlock this profile?

Thanks!

Julie,

This is normal operating procedure on wikitree. If we enter a birth date less than 100 years (I think), then wikitree will automatically give it a private privacy setting, removing our ability to do further editing.

A better practice might be to find a death date FIRST, assuming the person died. Then, when you enter a birth date, it won't close up.

The person was about 185 years old, and I had explicitly selected the non-living option, so it shouldn't have automatically changed to a red privacy setting.

Thanks, though!

Julie
Ah, so the cutoff is 200 years, then, if there's no death date listed.

AND, you're right: if we select non-living, the system shouldn't shut down the profile. So that is a bug.

I see that Eowyn has opened it back up.
Not a bug. One of the fields had "intentionally blank because still living" marked.
So there isn't a non-living selection available? Did Julie accidentally select "intentionally blank because still living"?

Eowyn --

When I got the message, it didn't kick me out of the editing screen, and I took note of the fact that I had clicked the non-living button. Now I wish I had taken a screen shot.

I promise you with all the coffee in my coffee cup that I didn't click on the "intentionally blank ..." button. :-/

There is a non-living option and that was (and should still be) checked. The still living option was marked in a different field than the one Julie marked non living. The system will recognize living and set privacies accordingly regardless of if non-living is marked elsewhere.
Oh geez ... did I hit that instead of the Certain indicator for location?

I'm going back to bed.

I'm sorry. :(
It happens.  It's fixed. All good :)
I owe you a favor. :-/
Yes. Yes you do. Muahahahaha.

Have you contacted the profile manager?

The profile manager hasn't been active on wikitree in over two years. Julie can try, but...
Exactly. :-)

The death place field had "intentionally blank because still living" selected.  I fixed it and the privacy setting.

Thank you. :-)

Please see my note above, though. I made note of it because I knew I had clicked the non-living button before I saved.

Just out of curiosity... why do we have an "intentionally left blank because still living" option on the death place field?
