Surnamedb.com has Gregg as originating in Scotland and Hadley in England. Do you have any early Gregg or Hadley first names in your family? You may want to go to familysearch.org and enter each of the two surnames and enter Ireland as well. There are lots of results in different parts of Ireland for both.

Greggs have lived in Ballymena, Killala, Stranorlar, Sligo, Antrim, Magherafelt, and Larne.

A number of Hadleys lived in Belfast, other locations include Dublin, Waterford, Clonygowand of Kings, Enniskillen, and several in Sligo.

Some Gregg families moved to Coleraine, Londonderry area of Ireland from Scotland prior to immigrating to the Colonies.

Thanks for the question, I'm off to Scotland next month so the previous answer helps!

If you're going to Scotland soon, you probably would want to check out this:

http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=Gregg

Click on Scotland and it will show a map of where the Gregg surname is most abundant between 1841 (clearances began) and 1901.

Ayrshire had the most in 1841, followed by Lanarkshire, and others. It looks to me that by 1901, they had greatly reduced in population from the highlands. Check it out at the site to see what you think. Hope you have an interesting visit.
Thanks Frank. I was going to start in Edinburgh, and then the Glasgow/Greenock areas. Still working out the details.
