Email to the profile manager is a nice courtesy when proposing a merge, but it's not the only (nor even the best) way to initiate a merge.
To propose a merge, open the public page for the profile that you think should be merged into another profile, and click on "initiate a merge" in the the lower left corner of the page. On the screen that comes up next, enter the ID for the profile that you want to merge to in the box labeled "ID-2." Then click the "MERGE" button.
The profile managers will receive email about your proposal and can approve or reject the proposal. After 30 days without a response, the proposal gets default approval.
