Need Help Connecting William Stovall Hess to His Parents

Hi!
My name is Regena Campbell Dawson and I am from Huntsville, AL. I am trying to find one missing link so that I can become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

I am proving I am related to Joseph Davis (4 AUG 1745, Augusta Co VA - 6 SEP 1795, Mercer Co KY) who was in the Revolutionary War. I have everything I need except for one thing.

Joseph Davis Hess (11 MAY 1791, Mercer Co KY - 2 OCT 1869, Coffee Co TN) is my 3rd Great Grandfather. He married Sarah D "Sally" Stovall (9 SEP 1799, Rutherford Co TN - 1869, Coffee Co TN). Their son William Stovall Hess (24 DEC 1827, TN - 12 MAR 1884, Marshall Co AL -- Killed by tornado) is my 2nd GG.

I need a Bible record, will, land grant, something that specifically states that Joseph Davis Hess and Sarah D "Sally" Stovall had a son named William Stovall Hess. It must be a Bible entry or official document for the DAR to accept it.

Do you have such a document or know of someone who might? Can you point me in the right direction? If so, I would definitely appreciate your help. I am so close!!

Thanks in advance,
Regena

I see his family search information:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:33H2-DLX

but no sources... hmm.

The LDS has some on site resources that might prove useful - something called The Stovall Journal, published from at least 1978 through 1999 - you might check into that, but I think you'll have to go to one of their centers to read it.
I have tons of sources, just not the one to tie them together. Maybe if I do go to an LDS center, they can help me out. I can tract Joseph's and Williams migration through the years. Just no proof that they are son and father. It would be nice if one of William Stovalls siblings had a Bible belonging to their parents that listed all the kids and their births -- and that it was passed down through the generations to someone who is willing to share!!
I have a lot of Stovall data, and may be able to help, but I cannot find a Sarah Stovall born in 1799.   Are you sure that was her maiden name, do you have information on her parents?
Found her....she was Sally, not Sarah.   http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stovall-989

Let me see if there is anything in her father's will....
Here is another avenue for you, contact the coordinator at http://tngenweb.org/coffee/,   They might be able to find a will for you.
Yes, she is Sarah "Sally" D Stovall. I am new to genealogy, just 4 months now, but you had a great idea that I didn't even think about. Look for the parents and aunts and uncles wills. They might mention him as a nephew or grandson. Such a great idea!!

Thanks for trying to find this information for me!!

Thank you both, Scott and Robin, for helping me out. I am really hopeful that I an find the link.

Let me ask you both another question, in any of your researching have you found rumors that the Daveiss-Hess line goes back to Cleopatra, Pocahontas's sister. It is in that book on the Daveiss-Hess family.

And, when you trace the Stovalls back, does it lead you to Christopher Newport?

There have been things leading me in that direction, but it could just be wishful thinking.

Welcome to Wikitree Regena!   What you will find here is a lot of people who are willing to help.   But, you will also find connections that we were POSITIVE about have been dashed.  That has happened to me several times.   The good news, is that I have found new connections and have figured out how to do GOOD genealogy.   So, for you Newport question...take a look at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Newporte-1 and http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hatcher-45, this is where the branch falls apart.

And for http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Powhatan-5, you may want to join the project and help in that discovery.   http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Family_of_Powhatan

Robin,

I see the missing Susannah in the Newport-1. So, in you opinion, do you think that Susannah is the daughter of Christopher Newport? Without her, I can't get there through the Stovalls.

Do you think Margaret Daveiss-Hess is a descendent of Cleopatra? MD-H is my 4th GG Mother.

I wish there were a way to be positive.
I meant granddaughter.
